This drawing was created in response to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The 1776 Declaration of Independence outlines the forms of oppression and brutality against the colonists by the ruling British monarchy. Tragically, this long list of offenses resonates today.
The title references artist Francisco Goya's "The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters", the title of one of Goya's 80 etchings from his "Los Caprichos" series, published in 1799, where he criticized the rampant political, social, and religious abuses of the time period.
